5.   Base and Pedestal of Stone Cross, Chengannur
Date unknown: circa 1599, but possibly based on pre-Portuguese models

The pedestal is decorated with various winged figures and a depiction of the crucifixion, as well as sun symbols and fleur-de-lis crosses. The black discoloration is due to the burning of coconut oil around the pedestal as an act of devotion. The intense heat generated by the burning oil has resulted in damage to many of the stone crosses and their plinths.
